Our Three-Level Plan of Action

Local — Tri-Valley and Alameda County: We will target city councils, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, police departments, and public-safety committees. We will demand public approval, warrant standards, retention limits, audits, and disclosure before camera expansion. We will organize residents, collect testimony, attend meetings, and seek local ordinances. Desired outcome: enforceable local privacy rules and community oversight.

California — State level: We will ask the Legislature and Governor to establish statewide standards for automated license-plate readers: a warrant or documented emergency exception, short retention, access logs, public reporting, and limits on sharing. We will lobby lawmakers, build a statewide coalition, publish research, and use testimony and media pressure. Desired outcome: a California privacy law that protects every driver.

National — Federal level: We will target Congress, federal grant administrators, and relevant oversight bodies. We will demand that federal funds not subsidize warrantless mass tracking and that agencies require transparency, civil-rights safeguards, and strong data limits. We will contact representatives, build national support through petitions and public education, and work with civil-liberties partners. Desired outcome: federal funding and oversight rules that stop unchecked surveillance expansion.
